A couple of years ago I was at my parents’ house and we ordered a pizza. It was a football night, so the wait was long and the pizzas would likely be lukewarm when they arrived. But Mom didn’t feel like cooking, hence, the pizza.
I was always the one to answer the door, sign the slip, and give the pizza guy his tip. On this particular night, the deliverer was an older man. As he handed me a pen to sign the slip, I noticed it was an ink joy pen, one of my two favorite brands. I mentioned this to him, and we got talking.
He said that ink joy was the best brand of pens and that he was glad I had found them as my favorite pen.
“I have another favorite,” I said. “The Pentel Energel pens are my other favorite.”
The guy smiled, held up a finger, and lo and behold pulled out a Pentel Energel Pen from his pocket.
“I’m so glad someone else took the time to figure out what the best pens are, other than me,” he said.
“I’m a writer, so I always test out new pens. But this is pretty awesome. The same taste in pens. Who would have thunk?”
And that is the story of how I have the same taste in pens as a pizza guy. I want to thank him for taking the time to talk to me on that busy night about pens, and for making my life a little brighter.
